You believe that Information Technology is the career path you want to take.

You are considering getting an online Information Technology associate degree but there are so many specific areas to go into you are not sure which bests suits you. Take the time to do research into some of the IT specialties before you commit.  Here are just a few of the Information Technology options available.

General Information Technology
This a broad category that opens a great many career doors. Every company needs someone capable of taking care of the daily networking and software issues that arise.

These people may also be the ones responsible for developing and or maximizing their company's web presence. If you enjoy problem solving and have the patience for untangling knots that those who are not that familiar with computer use invariably tie for themselves then this may be the career path for you. The good news is that for most positions in technical support an online Information Technology associate degree is enough to get your foot in the door.

Network Specialist
These are the people who make sure that all the computers in a given network can access each other.

They are in demand, especially in large companies where there may be many locations around the globe that need to be able to have immediate and constant access to each other. Network engineers are also responsible for protecting the network from viruses and hackers. Although you may be able to find a position with only an associate's degree, you will improve your odds by continuing your education.

Software Development
These are the folks that design and implement the software that makes it easier for everyone else to use their computer. There is a constant demand for fresh thinking in this area of software engineering. If you are creative and can sometimes see solutions that others cannot than this may be the path for you to follow.

Project Management
This path is more supervisory in nature. Although you will need to have a firm understanding of information technology in order to be effective in these positions, most of your daily duties would revolve around getting the rest of the technology support staff to do their jobs as effectively as possible. These positions would definitely require you further your education past an online Information Technology associates degree.
But you have to get that first.

Health IT
The demand for those in the field of
Healthcare Information Technology is growing very rapidly.

This is a more specialized area of expertise and requires that the IT professional who works in it to have not only a thorough understanding of technology but also to be well versed in the medical field. They are responsible for making sure that a patient's electronic health record (EHR) is accurate and can be easily accessed from anywhere they receive treatment. Those who choose to go this route must be able to adapt quickly and be willing to stay up to date as the standards and regulations are still being developed.

The first step along any of these career paths, and the many others available to those who want to work in IT,
may be an online Information Technology associate degree. Find out more today and you could be on your way to a secure future tomorrow.
