Ad agencies spend months preparing for the holiday season; their hard work certainly does not go unnoticed. Holiday advertising campaigns are some of the most recognizable and beloved television commercials to grace the airwaves all year long. Here is a collection of some of the favorites from the past and the projected favorites of 2012 for your reading pleasure.
Target hit first with a holiday ad that began running in October. The ad agency commissioned to create the ad clearly thought that being the first one to the party was a great strategy. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, the ad is certainly clever. The ad's early arrival is strategic; the commercial features the company's new, price match program; an exciting offer from the major retailer.
The Christmas season doesn't official start until Coca-Cola's Christmas advertisement runs. This year that happened on November 10th during X-Factor. The ads have been a holiday staple for decades and always feature Santa enjoying a wonderful carbonated beverage. It doesn't look like Coke will be deviating from the tried-and-true formula this year either, so bust out those Santa hats and enjoy this surefire favorite.
The Mega Toy Store
For decades Toys 'R' Us has been the toy retailer of choice for Christmas needs. The 2012 holiday season is sure to be no different and the toy retailer is starting early with the advertising as well. The ad agencies in charge of Christmas ads for the toy megastore has focused their efforts on something a bit more evergreen this year. While the commercial has a distinct Christmas jingle playing in the background the ad focuses on the products offered by the retailer; this concept is a far cry from what we, as a public, are used to seeing in Christmas ads.
Apple is also warming up their chops for the 2012 season. With Samsung beating the technology giant in Q3 earnings on their cell phones the company has something to prove. Last year the Apple Christmas advertisement was a hit. Santa was featured using the wonder that was the new "Siri" technology to set up his delivery appointments and to GPS his flight pattern. The commercial was pure genius and we can expect the same big things this year.
A Family Favorite
Christmas would be nothing without Hess Trucks and many people are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the newest Hess commercial. We don't know much about it yet, but it is sure to feature a Hess truck, some children and snow. The formula for Hess commercials hasn't changed much, but why would ad agencies deviate from such a classic favorite, anyway?
