Katy Senator pushing bill to allow employees to keep firearms in their own vehicles in employer parking.

Tyler---A quandry for employers and employees: whether to allow workers to keep their firearms in their own vehicles while parked on company property.

There have been some cases where workers were terminated for keeping guns on company property.

And employers worry about possible litigation if somone is injured by a firearm on their property.

One republican senator from Katy is trying to please both sides with a piece of legislation aimed at giving workers more leeway with firearms in their vehicles while keeping employees safely out of the courts too.

The last time I checked, a vehicle was considered to be "personal property" in the state of Texas. As long as my gun stays inside my vehicle, it isn't my employers business.

Unless and until employers provide armed security for their employees as they enter or exit company property, they are liable for that employees safety; period!!
Additionally, if an employee was prevented from having the ability to defend themselves to and from work because of employer policy, any harm occurring on their commute should cause liability for the employer and if I were a juror; it certainly would!!
