Bullard, Tx — Every year the annual Texas Testicle Festival's "Calf Fry" has benefited the Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo but this year after an unfortunate passing of an East Texas cowboy, the proceeds went to a different cause: roper Stoney Burke's family.
KETK spoke with TTF's Cole Bolton who explains, "He had cancer, and we were putting on this event to benefit him for his treatments, however the cancer spread and progressed much quicker and he passed about three weeks ago before this roping could take place."
The turnout of hundreds of ropers for this calf fry showed how important Burke was to his community.
K.C. Holman told KETK that there were somewhere between 500 teams competing on Saturday.
While some roped, others gave to the cause in a different way. There was a silent auction and raffle where attendees could bid on anything from pillows to the more popular items, such as pictures of Stoney Burke.
If you would like to donate to the Burke family, donations can be made at any Austin Bank in the name of Benefit Roping for Stoney and Leah Burke.
