Changes may be coming for Coffee City in November

Candidates forum held on Saturday

On Saturday at the new community center in Coffee City, 4 candidates showed up for an informal talk about the issues facing the small town.

The panel consisted of candidates for city council as well as Steve Gullekson, who's running for mayor.

"What we had today was we had an impartial moderator...and we invited all the candidates to attend. Unfortunately some candidates were unable to appear, but we had a very good group," Gullekson said.

The candidates that did participate belong to a group called "People for a United Coffee City."

Most of those that did not show are members of the "Concerned Citizens of Coffee City."

The tone at Saturday's event was pretty tame...a far cry from the heated city council meeting just a few months ago.

"Coffee City has had a very checkered past.  And we want to...we want to get Coffee City going down the middle of the road and not veering off one direction or another that causes issues," Gullekson said.

Among the topics discussed Saturday...property tax.

None of the candidates present wanted it.

But because the liquor store revenue may not last forever, they're hoping for some new businesses to come in.

KETK also spoke with Ray Wakeman, the candidate running for mayor against Gullekson...

He tells KETK, "We were not contacted for any input about this meeting."

He says the Concerned Citizen candidates did attend a 'meet the candidates' event back in September.

In the meantime, Wakeman has been going door to door for support in Coffee City.

Many GREAT changes ARE in store for Coffee City. Thankfully, the people uprooted those who forgot they were public SERVANTS and failed to represent all the citizens,--not just a chosen few.

Preach it brother...there are many of us who are exhausted from the lies...cannot believe Wakeman actually said that...do we want Wakeman (who lies even about simple things) running our City? The other three are like unto lying down with dogs and waking up with fleas...

No one seems to be telling the whole truth here. This was not originally set up as a forum, rather a debate by the outgoing partisan Mayor.
The only input came from one side. That side was completely controlled by Mayor Moore, aldermen Graham,Farris, Aubuchon, as well as Gulleckson, candidate for mayor.
So unfair that two moderators dropped out!
Many citizens were outraged at the mayor calling Wakeman a liar. The concerned citizens voted in all those who boycotted this "ambush forum"

Ha Ha!! Greetings from the victorious side! After the ambush council meeting and Meet and Greet, then planning the forum with no input from anyone but the PUCCERS, the CCCC candidates weren't about to give them another chance to ambush them. Needless to say, the good citizens of Coffee City are much more intelligent than the Puccers gave them credit, as every single one of their candidates lost in a landslide election. It's a bright new day in Coffee City!!!

You seem to repeat yourself

Yeah, you said that before..

Last thing I will say is atleast the people trying to unite Coffee City they showed up to let people know EXACTLY how they feel.

And, thankfully, we don't have to listen to you any more Mr Graham!
Congratulations to Ray Wakeman, Don Weaver, Phil Rutledge, and Ruthie Seward for their
landslide win in Coffee City.
And many thanks to Darlene Jordan and Pam Drost for standing tall while being ambushed and bullied for the last few years by the mayor and alderMEN. You remained professional even though the alderMEN cannot even spell "professional".

Actually Skippy, they showed up at the polls and showed how they feel.

Hey, Johnny ProTem Graham, thanks for all the Letter's to the Editor in the Citizen and especially for your defamatory paid ad...I think that made all the difference in getting our candidates elected and yours defeated.

Obamanos? LOL!!!!

What a moron....lol

Also as far as Seward goes wasn't she in control of the city when it was at it's most corrupt? Back when there was absolutely no transparency. Also back when they paid the council members several hundred dollars just to attend for a few minutes. The concerned citizens have made their platform clear and were to cowardly to even attend the meeting in fear of having to show the citizens their true feelings. They can promise rainbows and sunshine but let their actions speak for them.

Hey Graham..we know that's you...lol

Graham, you liar, this is where we came in, was you lying about that stupid speed limit. J. Tom and the TX-DOT guy both said you and Moore were lying. Now look at the landslide! Everyone hates you fools, and everyone, including KETK's readers can see through your pitiful lies. Goodbye and Good Riddance to bad rubbish!

on their website that they were going not going to attend. It just goes to show how the concerned citizens of Coffee City work. If you recall they boycotted a meeting to deny a forum when an important safety issue was trying to be decided. They candidates for the concerned citizens are a bad choice for the city. They (on their website) have mentioned how they plan to get in control and begin dismantling the city. Again all can be proven on their site.

NEWSFLASH.. Not one of the candidates..I mean newly elected Councilpersons and Mayor, contribute to or support the CCCC blog. The blog writers did not, nor will likely ever, run for any political office. As you can clearly see by the results of this election, we don't need to...

Wow Ray Wakeman is an honest candidate? I wont be voting for him because of several reason. Let me bring them to light for all. Wakeman says he was not contacted for any input for the meeting? All candidates were invited to attend, it was published in the Frankston Citizen newspaper for a few weeks, I believe it was mentioned in atleast one city council meeting which Ray attended and all of these can be proven. Also not to mention they planned on boycotting the forum and it was broadcasted..

You got your vote. We, the concerned citizens of Coffee City also voted.

And all of your nonsense, character maligning and filthy worded emails, your OWN website disparaging innocent citizens ( a little fact you didn't reveal in your rambling diatribe), trespassing on private propery to post ridiculous signs, and paid nonsensical Obamanos adverts....COST YOUR SIDE THE ELECTION.

Get used to a new agenda. We won. The honorable citizens have spoken.

But the main reason you didn't vote for them is because you are (were) the Mayor ProTem John Graham and you would have been voting against your handpicked candidates. How's that whole annexing Brierwood Bay to water down the Concerned Citizens vote working out for you?
