Director Rian Johnson tapped to direct "Star Wars Episode VIII"
It has been announced that "Star Wars Episode VII" director J.J. Abrams will not be directing the remaining two Star Wars films.
Abrams, who has been awarded (or punished depending on how you look at it) the task of revisiting the galaxy far far away back, will not be returning to direct Episode VIII or IX. Instead, the journey will be past on to "Looper" director, Rian Johnson. Reports say Johnson will be at the helm of "Star Wars Episode VIII," and will write the script for "Episode XI".
It's still unclear whether Abram's will still help creatively with the project.
Several people are skeptical of Johnson taking over such an iconic series. His repertoire includes films that were more indie than well known hollywood blockbusters.
However, Johnson knows exactly what's at stake. Shortly after news broke that he would be taking over the franchise, Johnson posted a link on his Twitter that captures exactly what we're all thinking.
