Fans searching for the truth about a third "X-Files" movie will need to keep looking.

The possibility of another film came up at the 20th anniversary panel at Comic-Con on Thursday, and the response from the well-stocked panel attendees was pretty vague.

The TV Guide-hosted event reunited stars David Duchovny (Agent Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Agent Scully) with "X-Files" creator Chris Carter and executive producers Howard Gordon and Vince Gilligan, among others.

Religious viewers of the long-running series, which followed two FBI agents as they tracked unexplained paranormal cases, were frank with their curiosity about the relationship between Mulder and Scully. (What would the two do on a date? "Have sex," Anderson answered. "Then maybe dinner?" Duchovny followed.)

When talk turned to another "X-Files" film, both stars said they'd be interested, should the project ever happen.

""The show was so flexible and could encompass so many different ideas," Duchovny said. "I always thought whenever we can do it, come back together, we would. So we will."

Anderson, too, thought another movie was a "great idea," although she wasn't as keen on the concept of bringing "The X-Files" back as a limited series, akin to what Fox is doing with the once-defunct "24" next year.

Creator Carter played it cool on the chatter, instead noting that "The X-Files," which ran from 1993 to 2002, would still have relevance if it did return today.

"The suspicion and conspiracy theories are so much more rampant," he said. "You could do the show now. You couldn't really do the show in 2002 because people trusted the government --- or wanted to. We went through a period there where 'The X-Files' was not relevant."
