"CanStructing" A Community Without Hunger

Longview Community Ministries celebrates “CanStructing” A Community without Hunger Competition in the Common Areas of the Longview Mall beginning Saturday, February 26 through Sunday, March 8. “CanStruct” is an annual event that combines the spirit of design/building with a unique way to help feed hungry people. After the event all food is donated to Longview Community Ministries Food Box.
Area youth showcase their talents by designing structures made entirely out of canned foods. The public can do their part by donating cans to the community barrel located next to the structure.
Programs sponsored by Longview Community Ministries include: The Food Box, the largest food pantry in Longview, assisting families with donated food items from individuals, churches, and businesses; Brown Bag a monthly grocery delivery to homebound and elderly citizens; Meals on Wheels, hot meals delivered to persons daily by volunteers; Coats for Kids, takes place in November, giving the city’s underprivileged children the opportunity to shop for a new coat; Family Crisis Service Center and Learning Lab, trained volunteer caseworkers, supervised by LCM staff, offer compassion to families in crisis, providing food, shelter, prescription assistance, basic job and computer skills, and other special needs.
