10
The KCHS-CBDHS Alumni Association will have its ground breaking ceremony this coming Saturday, October 10th, at 11 AM, Highway 31 & MLK Blvd; future home of its Memorial Site.
Program Coordinator, Geneva Taylor says a short but memorable program is planned with remarks from: Mayor Joe Parker, City Manager, Jeff Howell, KISD Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, Jody Clements and Dennis Williams; and Erby (Doc) Muckelroy (KCHS alumni, class of
1942). On behalf of Kilgore Baptist Church, which served as a school for Blacks as early
as 1873, Howard Stephens, retired assistant principal from Kilgore High School will offer
comments. Stephens is a former Dansby teacher, coach, and a deacon at Kilgore Baptist
Church.
Billie Stoker, chairperson of the Memorial Site Committee will provide a catalogue of campaign events leading up to the unveiling of the site in July 2011.
The program concludes with the school song led by Georgia Porter Jones and a purple and gold balloon release with the first shovel dig in.
A historical moment and time of celebration for Kilgorians, all are invited/encouraged to byos (bring your own shovel/spade) and break ground.
