Literacy Council of Tyler Donor Appreciation Luncheon
Jan
28
The Literacy Council of Tyler will host a luncheon at Hollytree Country Club on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 12 noon to recognize and thank our Circle of Honor Donors. These special donors contributed $135,000 to Literacy Council of Tyler during 2009.
The Literacy Council of Tyler in partnership with Tyler Junior College provides GED preparation, English as a Second Language instruction, academic advising, basic literacy instruction and workplace literacy instruction for local businesses and industry.
Statistics indicate that 25% of Smith County adults read below the 5th grade reading level. Thus, Literacy Council of Tyler was established in 1990 to provide literacy services to adults in the East Texas area. Located in the Regional Training and Development Complex (RTDC) on TJC’s west campus, Literacy Council of Tyler continues to serve adults in Tyler and the surrounding area with free public education.
To join the battle against illiteracy in east Texas, contact Volunteer Coordinator DeAnn Sutton at 903-533-0330. LCOT relies on more than 300 volunteers each year to carry out its mission.
