FLDS sanctions polygamous unions, which are not official civil marriages

SAN ANGELO---The Associated Press is reporting;  a jury has sentenced a member of a polygamous West Texas group to six years in prison after finding him guilty of sexual abuse of a child.

Keith William Dutson Jr. could have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison Tuesday.

A Tom Green County jury returned its guilty verdict Tuesday in San Angelo against the 25-year-old member
of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The FLDS sanctions polygamous unions, which are not official civil marriages.

The San Angelo Standard-Times reports Dutson would have been 20 at the time of the October 2005 ceremony. The girl would have been 15.

Few Americans know that Kit Carson, American explorer and indian fighter, married his third wife at age 34, she was 14. You argue, that was then this is now, I rebut that the Fundamentalist live their lives as it was then, not now. If we are so eager to put people in jail for their mutual attractions then, we should put all underage mothers in jail for the drain on our society they cause.

What is it about headlines that just don't agree with the reporting included: did the perpetrator get 20 years or 6 years? Does anyone really know?
