Gilmer City officials regroup to fill hole left by retiree
GILMER- Gilmer city officials are reorganizing staff following a 16-year employee’s retirement and giving pay raises to those involved.
Director of Community Development Mike Catron retired from the city effective Dec. 31, City Manager Jeff Ellington said Wednesday. Catron wore a multitude of hats in the city, doing everything from food inspections and code inspections to helping at the airport and working with the census in Gilmer, Ellington said.
“It’s almost like Mike is irreplaceable,” Ellington told the Gilmer City Council as he proposed a reorganization of city staff to ensure all of Catron’s duties are covered.
