The minivan lives...
The folks at Chrysler, who invented the minivan, have two on the market right now. The Chrysler version is the Town and Country, the Dodge version is the Grand Caravan and the Volkswagen version is the Routan.
Oh, yeah, I forgot. Chrysler builds the newest VW minivan, so to the meet the demanding standards of the Crowd over in Deutschland, you know it has to be good.
And it is, and it is loaded with wonderful stuff. Start with the electrically driven, fold-flat seats in the back.
And once you've finished playing with them, you can reach into the deep storage bin in the floor behind the front seats, and retrieve…the table. Yes, the table. In fact, swing the second row seats around…did I mention they swing around, and you can play 5-card stud while on the move. Match that, James Bond.
The SXT version we drove has the largest V6, the 4-liter, 252-horsepower mill that is hooked to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
That combo moves the Grand Caravan with alacrity and still returns 17 miles per gallon city, 25 on the highway.
The base price for the SXT model is just under $27,000 but ours had everything under the sun, indluding all the stuff I just mentioned, and came to $33,695. But hey, can you play poker in a Toyota Sienna?
