The Ford Transit connect is either the most efficient delivery vehicle on the market today, or the funkiest family van you can buy. And frankly, it's pretty cool. Ok, let's deal with the looks. It's a sort of small truck with a custom, raised roof cargo box on the back. It may look strange here, but in Europe and elsewhere abroad, this is what a run of the mill delivery vehicle looks like. When your gas costs $5 bucks a gallon, you get both efficient and creative. That's why the little hauler from Turkey, that's right, Turkey, is on sale now. Because no matter how semi-stable the price of Arabian black gold seems right now, it will no doubt soon head toward the stars. And when that happens, you don't want your company's delivery fleet to be a bunch of Expeditions and Suburbans. So what do you get for a base price of $21-thousand and change? Well, you don't really get a truck. This mini is based on the first generation Ford Focus platform and as such, the ride isn't really all that bad. Think of it as a crossover vehicle with a gland condition. But whether you use it for work or family, you get room…lot's of room. And a pair of rear doors to access it that not only swing out to their stopping points, but when you press a button in the door, release to swing all the way back to the side of the truck. They are held there by a big magnet. Pretty slick. Under the hood, well, you will be underwhelmed. A 2.0-liter four cylinder with all of 136-horsepower makes this little box roll, and even weighing 3500 pounds, it gets 22 mpg in town, 25 on the highway. Try that with your F-150 delivery truck. That's the Ford Transit Connect. It is a terrific idea…after all, all those Europeans can't be wrong. That's our road test, I'm Roger Gray and I'll see you on our next road trip.
