LONGVIEW - Rising diesel prices are not the only cost farmers are worried about.
Increasing electricity, fertilizer and feed prices are also tough on farmers and ranchers.
Agriculturist Alan Branham said, "Its terrible on the farmers how all the cost are goin up and the stuff we are selling aren't going up much and we're really feeling the crunch right now."
Branham said, "When all of our inputs the cost of what we have goin into our product we have to pass the bucket down the line so its going to end up costing consumers more and supermarkets for beef, chicken and hogs."
Officials from the American Farm Bureau Federation say, last year a farmer could buy a ton of fertilizer for about $450, now the price tag is closer to $1000.
500 gallons of diesel fuel this time last year cost between $500-$800, this year it is about $1500 to fill up that same tank.
County Agent, Dennis Smith said, "We've seen tremendous increase in prices of course everything is tied back to the price of oil...those are things making a big impact on agriculture tight now."
Branham says as an Agriculturist he is not going to keep his fingers crossed for prices to go down----but he is prepared to make changes to adjust during this tough time.
"We are gonna have to tighten our belts and have to learn to raise cows with less feed, how to grow hay with less fertilizer....possibly change the way we've been doin things for decades, Branham said."
