TYLER - It's music to listeners' ears as the radio industry makes the transition to high definition radio.
Eventhough one East Texas station has upgraded, the competition with Satellite radio is fierce.
It's taking over most stations of out Dallas and now the new sounds are coming from Jacksonville's 102.3 The Breeze.
"When you get used to it, you really hate to go back to analog," said Bill Waller of Waller Broadcasting, the owners of 102.3.
Waller says his company has invested more than $200,000 for the crisper sound.
"If you listen to H.D. radio, what you'll hear is quality very close to a cd," Waller said.
But having the capability in your car, doesn't mean you'll only get better sound from station's with an HD signal.
" The HD radio has improved even analog signals even if you listen to analog stations," he says.
Even the most high end cars in East Texas don't carry HD. They carry satellite radio instead.
Automakers from around the world have committed to adding HD radio in the future.
For now, you'll have to spend at least $500 at a shop like lambert's to get the system installed.
"It'll grow step by step. it's not going to pick up and run it's like anything," says Grainger Lambert, who installs all types of sound equipment.
Waller says he realizes the big pay off won't come for a few years.
"It took about 7 years for FM just to really get started," he says it may take longer for HD to keep listeners on the airwaves and off of satellite.
102.7 The Blaze says they are also working on an HD conversion.
