HENDERSON COUNTY - Randall Wayne Mays has been in court all week, charged with the death of Deputy Tony Ogburn on May 17th 2007.

It only took about an hour to find 48-year-old randall wayne mays guilty of capital murder in the death of henderson county deputy tony ogburn.

Hank "The state had a good case."

"In closing arguments here at the Henderson County Judicial Complex, the prosecution argued Mays made the decision to shoot and kill the two deputies."

The state says he made the choice to fight, rather than give up.

They say he also made the choice to put two police officers in the ground-- Deputies Tony Ogburn and Paul Habelt.

On the other hand, the defense says the truth is, is that you've got an individual that is mentally ill.

If you remember, May's psychiatrist in the Smith County Jail said Thursday, Mays suffers from paranoia, borderline schizophrenia, and major depression.

A psychologist also testified, she believes mays suffers from paranoid personality disorder.

She was the only witness to take the stand Friday.

A day, families involved in the trial will never forget.

Athens attorney Hank Skelton tells KETK, the trial has taken a toll on everyone.

Hank Skelton says, "I'm sure it's been a hard on the family, no one condones it but it happens."

When courtroom doors opened, and the verdict was read.

Family members on all ends were overcome with emotion.

Our cameras caught Mays showing no emotion as he left the area.
