LONGVIEW---Fourteen votes: that's all that stood between spending $266 million to rebuild Longview schools or leave them as is.

"We'll essentially re-build the entire district," says Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox.

Most in the community say, they're glad schools are getting some work done.

"I think it's a good thing because the buildings are old, and they do need renovating," Longview resident, Cindy Gilmore says.

Yet some still have reservations about the big price tag and why it took the district so long to make these big changes.

"We were so far behind in what we needed to offer a quality plan," says Gayle Alexander.

Ms. Alexander was an educator for many years, and while she's happy students and teachers will be getting better facilities, she understands concerns about costs.

"People on fixed incomes, especially in a time like...will be a burden to bear for a long time to come," Alexander explains.

That may be why the election came down to less than twenty votes.

"I think it's extremely close," Renee Seeley says.

"Fourteen is a very small margin of victory...That's like Hillary and Obama," Alexander says.

Seeley and Alexander think it's worth another look at the numbers.

"I don't think it would hurt. That's an awfully close race," Alexander concludes.

But Longview I.S.D. officials say, the bond passed, so as promised, they're moving forward with construction swiftly.

"Have these facilities available for our students and the community as quickly as possible," Dr. Wilcox says.

In fact, ground-breaking for the projects could start as early as October.

The money from the bond is going toward improving technology and educational facilities at all schools.

In many cases, completely new schools will be built.

Officials say this money is mainly for infrastructure, not activities or athletics.
