EAST TEXAS - Texas Department of Transportation officials say the two lane, twenty mile toll road will connect Interstate 69 with U.S. 59 and would run through East Texas.
Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt said, "That's a good thing in terms of bringing additional traffic to East Texas, I think it will effect Gregg County and all of East Texas."
TX-DOT officials say the same companies who were just yesterday allowed to created a part of the Trans-Texas Corridor in south Texas .. will be allowed to create the toll road.
Zachry American Infrastructure out San Antonio and C-S-A of Spain will be working on the project along with TX-DOT.
Bob Ratcliff with TX-DOT said, "TX-DOT intends on making improvements along existing highways along the corridor within the study area."
TX-DOT also says there is no plan to toll existing roads and finances are a big concern to city officials in Longview----
Stoudt said, "Theres got to be another way to do financing with larger projects vs. tolling because a lot of projects are not toll viable and if there not toll viable you can't pay back debt of what it cost to build it."
They also say the toll road would be beneficial, if there is an alternative route.
Stoudt said, "The philosophy in Texas right now is tolling is the concept in which they want to build highways...that is if a toll way is built theres gotta be a non toll way access that there's no tolls charged."
