JACKSONVILLE - A man police say led them on a chase after they tried to pull him over for fake license plates is now in the Smith County jail.

Officers say 41-year-old George Hay led Bullard Police on a chase that reached 95 miles per hour Thursday afternoon. Police say Hay was driving by Bullard High School on FM 2493 when they noticed the fake plates.

They tried to stop him with spikes on the road, but didn't catch up with him until he got to Jacksonville. Hay was arrested at the Little Creek apartments. He has been charged with evading arrest, detention with a vehicle and other traffic charges.
