Slowed island economy troubles Galveston officials

City losing jobs to mainland
Galveston---The Associated Press is reporting; Galveston City Council members have ordered the hiring of someone to promote economic development in the island city after growing concerned about economic losses to
nearby mainland cities.
The city is still trying to shake the slump that began when Hurricane Ike in 2008 killed some businesses and left others in danger.
Galveston has already lost some major employers to such mainland competition as Texas City, which is providing infrastructure and tax abatements to some companies.
