John Cornyn calls Violence Against Women Act debate a game of ‘political football’

In a nationally televised interview today, Texas Sen. John Cornyn lamented how the Violence Against Women Act — which is set to expire because of partisan gamesmanship on Capitol Hill — had been turned into a political football.

Moments later, MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell had Cornyn playing political defense.

During the interview Mitchell pulled up a touching video of Sharon Love, the mother of Yeardley Love — the young woman who was killed by her lacrosse-player boyfriend, –and asked Cornyn what democrats and republicans plan to do when domestic violence situations like Love’s continue to happen after the VAWA bill expires (assuming that the two parties can’t come to a conclusion).

I thought it was against the law to commit violence against anyone? What is the deal with all the protected groups, are some people better than others?
