Three suspects kicked in the door of an apartment in the 3800 block of Mainer

Houston---A man died after he was shot during an apparent home invasion in south Houston early Sunday, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 4 a.m. when three suspects kicked in the door of an apartment in the 3800 block of Mainer, attacked two people inside and began ransacking the residence, officers said.

At some point, two other people arrived at the apartment, surprising the intruders, who then fled while firing multiple shots, authorities said.

A bullet struck one of the men in the apartment in the chest. He was taken by private vehicle to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he later died. His identity is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
