Opening statements set for today in Flores' case.
AUSTIN---The Associated Press is reporting; a South Texas state lawmaker accused of perjury and ethics violations is to go on trial in Austin.
Opening statements are scheduled for a Travis County state district court on today in the trial of state Rep. Kino Flores.
Flores decided to not seek an eighth term in the Legislature after his July 2009 indictment by a Travis County grand jury.
The indictment accuses the 52-year-old Palmview Democrat of not declaring $115,000 to $185,000 in income each year from 2004 to 2009.
The indictments also allege that Flores did not report property sales and gifts of air transportation.
If convicted, Flores could be sentenced to up to two years in state jail.
