Illegal immigration is a very important topic to State Representative Leo Berman.
He's filed several bills already this session that relate to the controversial issue - one of which is meant to help Texas drivers - legal drivers, that is.
It's a measure that would prevent illegals from filing lawsuits in Texas courts, mainly relating to traffic accidents.
Berman says there are over a quarter of a million illegal immigrants driving in Texas without a drivers license and liability insurance.
So if a legal citizen gets hit in a traffic accident, he says the citizen will pay for it and their insurance will probably go up .
"If it's your fault, they may sue you and take you for everything you're worth, so in order to prevent that from happening, I've filed a bill that says that if you're an illegal in the united states and in Texas, you cannot use the Texas courts to sue a legal U.S. citizen," Berman said.
This particular bill is just one of several bills Berman has filed pertaining to illegal immigration.
