TYLER - Reliant Energy has received a $20 million dollar grant from the United States Department of Energy for energy saving solutions. ONCOR will be installing 6.7 million more smart meters over the next three years across Texas.
Reliant Energy will use the grant to analyze data from the meters to develop new energy saving solutions.
Reliant Energy says the company is confident in ONCOR and the smart meters accuracy level.
Company spokesman Scott Burns says no matter what results come back in June from the Public Utility Commission's independent tests on the meters, they will continue their relationship with ONCOR.
Burns says it's Reliant's number one priority to make sure customer's get more bang for their buck.
He says the company is working with ONCOR and the D.O.E. to create other energy saving solutions for customers.

They are able to do this it at fifteen minute intrevals. Your electricity provider no longer has to pay for someone to read your meter once a month and they can charge more for peak usage times such as when extreme cold or heat waves move in.
