TYLER - A publishing company reportedly puts a disclaimer on the U.S. Constitution warning people that what they're about to read comes from a different time period.
According to reports, this disclaimer also showed up on the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of the Confederation, Common Sense, and more historical documents.
The disclaimer was placed on copies of these documents published by Wilder Publications.
The warning says, "This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values it would if it were written today."
It goes on to say parents should discuss the issues with their children of ethnicity, gender, and so on before the kids read these historical works.
"This warning is completely at odds with everything I've been doing for my entire adult life," Doug Shryock, a retired military officer, says.
"The American Library Association has long had a position on what they call labeling materials, preferring instead for people to make their own decisions," Chris Albertson, Tyler's City Librarian says.
According to the copyright information attached to the disclaimer, it's been on publications since at least 2007.

It is time to stand up and not purchase anything published by this company and make sure our schools do not purchase any text books they publish, hurt them where it matters the pocket book!
Either the foundation on which this country was built was good for 200+ years!!!
The Constitution is sullied by ANY disclaimer!!
Here's a thought. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM WILDER PUBLICATIONS. Put a disclaimer on the publishing company.
I believe I just heard Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, George Washington, Samuel Adams, John Adams... just roll over in their graves.
This happened under the George W. Bush, Jr. administration.
Nothing seems to be sacred in America any longer.
