Fill the Boot for MDA

TYLER - Tyler firefighters took to the streets to helps kids with neuromuscular diseases.

It's all part of the annual "fill the boot" campaign.

These rubber boots usually worn by these brave firemen while they fight fires were used for a very different purpose Saturday.

They were used to collect money for children with muscular dystrophy.

Tyler fireman Wes Gilbert says it's a long running tradition that he is more than happy to take part in.

"Years ago the International Association of fire fighters teamed up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and this has been something that's been on going every year they do it at fire departments all across the country. We just like to help them out," Mr. Gilbert says.

All weekend you will see a friendly firefighter with a boot raising money for this worthy cause in front of the Lowes and two Wal-mart locations in Tyler.

No donation is too big or too small.

"I've had several people donate 20s and 10s."

So if you're in the area this weekend and are feeling generous help a local firefighter and a child by dropping a little something in the big rubber boots.
