Teens sent home for wearing American Flag

CALIFORNIA - The vice principal at Live Oak High in Morgan Hill-Californa---told five teens that if they didn't turn their American flag t-shirt inside out...they would be sent home.

He said it was because it was "Cinco de Mayo" and he didn't want to offend any Mexican-American students.

However two of the young boys were half-Mexican.

Some people say the situation at Live Oak High School could happen anywhere.

East Texans we talked to say people are too scared to offend and it all goes back to political correctness.

The school administrator was wrong but my question is this. How can anyone be mad about an administrator disrespecting a students rights to support our Nation when the student hinself is disrespecting our Nation by not following "The United States Flag Code" which establishes advisory rules for display and care of the flag of the United States? It is Section 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code (4 U.S.C. § 1 et seq). This is a U.S. federal law, but there is no penalty for failure to comply.

The idiot vice-principal should be fired and if he can't prove his citizenship: deported!!!

The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the flag of the United States. It is Section 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code (4 U.S.C. § 1 et seq). This is a U.S. federal law. The flag should not be used as "wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery",[1] or for covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins).

Title 4/Chapter 1/Section 8/Paragraph(D) Acording to the Cornell University Law School Web Site, states.(D)The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. The Key word in this paragraph is "Should". There is no penalty or LAW, much less Federal, that makes it a crime to wear..Once again, It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt

They are Federal codes establishing etiquate for displaying the flag. While they may not carry a punishment by law, and very often ignorred, they are still laws.

There is a law but there was no penalty enacted. You are correct but that does not change the fact that it shows disrespect to the Flag, the Nation and those who faught for what it stands for. Once again you should have listened to your Fathers' advice of It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt and once again he should have taught you better citizenship. It is Section 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code (4 U.S.C. § 1 et seq). This is a U

The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the flag of the United States. Get the picture "DUMB DUMB"

True, but how often is that law really enforced? Not to say the law is wrong, it just isn't applied, or in this case, applied equally.

U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that punitive enforcement would conflict with the First Amendment right to freedom of speech. (A Flag Desecration Amendment has been proposed from time to time and, if ever passed into law, would override Supreme Court rulings on this matter.)

NO! It is not true. Please read reply to "dum dum" above.

Doubled, just because you say something is not true does not make it not true.

It is to bad that abortion was not legal when your mother was pregnant with you. The world would be a better place with one less idiot that can not understand laws written in plain english and on a 3rd grade level.

Apparently the school administration has forgotten who the boss is. Time to pay them a long overdue visit parents and remind them who signs their checks.
