UPDATE: Charges may be filed in child drowning

According to Child Protective Services, yesterday's drowning was the 35th so far this season in Texas and it's the 6th drowing in East Texas over the past week.

As KETK first reported yesterday, a 5-year-old boy drowned at the Camp Tyler boat ramp on Lake Tyler.

Smith County Game Warden Chris Green says the mother was fishing on the pier while her kids were wading in the lake underneath.

Green says when the boy's mother went back to her car for a moment, that's when the child went missing.

After a brief manhunt, the child was found at the end of the pier by a bystander in a boat.

Chris Green says this week, several officials will meet to decide what to do about pressing charges against the parents.

"Someone needs to be held accountable for this unfortunate death out here.  It's just not acceptable.  We have to be more responsible parents," said Smith County Game Warden Chris Green.

Join us tonight at 10, we'll have a recap of this story and you'll hear from a parent on how he's keeping his kids safe on the lake this year.

That's coming up tonight at 10.

did anybody watch them on the news? something is very wrong about this. these showed no kind of emotion!!!! they acted like it was no big deal. and if she was right there and the other kids were swimming with him to how come nobody tried to help him. surely he was struggling or yelling for helpl. if that had been my child they would be having to bury me to or i would be in the crazy house for loosing a child.

I don't know the details, etc. involved in this child drowning. Charges filed against the parents? If there were drugs or alcohol involved as far as the parents are concerned, then yes. But, just an accident, I find that almost unthinkable. Parents lost a child......that is enough punishment, unless there is something I don't know. I understand you must keep on eye on young ones all the time or you are asking for trouble. They are quick and disappear in a heartbeat.

You have got to be kidding me. From what I've read it was not intentional it was an accident. Things happen - very bad things sometimes happen that we would never intend to happen.
