(AP) - The Agriculture Department says meat giant Cargill is recalling 36 million pounds of ground turkey linked to a death in California and at least 76 other salmonella illnesses.

Illnesses in the outbreak date back to March and have been reported in 26 states coast to coast.

Government officials say that even contaminated ground turkey is safe to eat if it is cooked to 165 degrees and handled properly before cooking.

WHY DOES THE GOVERNMENT WORRY MORE ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON ACROSS SEAS THAN OVER HERE ON OUR OWN TURF? THEY'RE MORE WORRIED ABOUT OIL THAN THE HEALTH OF AMERICAN PPL, AND KEEPING THEIR POCKETS FULL OF MONEY. THEY SHOULD ALL BE IMPEACHED AND ALL THESE BIG CORPORATIONS FINED FOR NOT STAYING ON TOP OF THINGS LIKE THEY SHOULD BE DOING TO BEGIN WITH. IF I WAS THE PERSON THAT LOST THE LOVED ONE IN CALIFORNIA, I WOULD SUE THE U KNOW WHAT OUT OF THAT COMP. AND THEN SUE THE AGRICULTURE DEPT.
