An early Christmas morning house fire claimed the life of one and sent another to the hospital in Huntington.

According to the Huntington Police Department, around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday morning, crews responded to a home engulfed in flames on East Pecan Street.

One man was able to escape the blaze and was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation, but upon extinguishing the fire, officials discovered a deceased woman in the rubble of the back bedroom.

Authorities believe the cause of the fire was an electric heater.

An autopsy is expected to be performed at 1:00 p.m. Thursday to confirm the identity of the deceased victim.

KETK will update information as it becomes available.
