11th Annual Day of Remembrance at The Children's Park
Tyler, Texas (KETK) — Families and friends from all over Texas will gather in Tyler on Saturday, October 26, at 10:30 a.m., in celebration of the 11th Annual Day of Remembrance Ceremony in The Children’s Park, located at the corner of South Broadway Avenue and East Dobbs.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and pre-registration is available, online until October 11th at www.childrensparktyler.org or by calling (903) 939-1597.
Admission is free.
The ceremony will commemorate the lives of children no longer with us. We welcome anyone who has been touched by the loss of a child.
“The Day of Remembrance Ceremony provides a safe place for families who have experienced the loss of a child to come together, to remember their children and to grieve the tremendous loss in their lives,” said Jennifer Carson, president of The Children’s Park.
“There are very few places in our society where we are given permission and even encouraged to feel and express the depth of our pain that results from the loss of a child. Our hope is that as people are given a place to grieve, they will be able to connect with their feelings, realize they are not alone, and move further along in their healing journey.”
Jennifer Carson, who spearheaded the efforts to build The Children’s Park twelve years ago, said, “The Day of Remembrance celebrates the lives of children no longer with us. Names of the children are spoken out loud so their memories continue to live on. This acknowledgement can be tremendously healing for families who have lost of a child. Alea Greer, mother of Morgan Greer, has experienced a loss first hand. She said, “Attending the Annual Day of Remembrance in memory of my daughter Morgan is always a special time for me and my family. It is a time for us to reflect on her short life and to think about all that she could have become. It is a bittersweet day for me because I am thankful for the time I had with her, but I truly miss her so much. I am so grateful to the Children's Park of Tyler for hosting this event every year. It provides that opportunity we need in our busy lives to slow down and reflect on the gift of children God gives us and to adore and appreciate them. You never know how long you will have them. This marks the 11th year of the Day of Remembrance. It also marks the 11th year of Morgan's Heavenly Homecoming.
The ceremony will include a roll call of the children represented, special music selections, a guest speaker on grief and will conclude with a live butterfly release. Regardless of how recent or how long ago the loss occurred, the hurt remains. Saturday, October 26, is set aside to remember our precious gifts from God.
