A grass fire turned into a larger wildfire Tuesday evening after high winds spread flames into a wooded area near a Lindale subdivision.

According to the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office, homes in the Copper Ridge Subdivision were threatened for a short time, but the fire has since been contained. With dangerous winds today, firefighters will work to keep any hot spots from reigniting the wildfire.

The blaze started near the intersection of Sand Flat Road and Jim Hogg Road. About 15 acres burned, said fire officials.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Red Springs, Winona, Mineola and the Lindale Fire Department responded to the scene.

Fire officials caution burning during high winds, which can lead to an out of control burn.
