Hundreds of East Texans gathered Saturday at the Tyler Rose Garden to admire some precious stones at the East Texas Gem and Mineral Show.

It is a passion for those with a special appreciation of God's work and the beauty of nature. For 18 years the East Texas Gem and Mineral Society has sponsored this how, to share with the community something they love.

"Our purpose is to take and educate the public and encourage the study in Geology, Mineralogy and Fossils," said President of the ETX Gem and Mineral Society, Kinney Polve.

From jewelry to gems, diamonds, minerals, and fossils --- the ETX Gem and Mineral Show had something for everyone. And one of the favorites that draws the largest crowd each year is the geodes.

"I have been coming for several years," said Linda Strepp. "It's one of the most fascinating things that you can come see is watch them crack the geodes."

The Geode stand has been coming to the ETX Gem and Mineral show since they first opened their doors in 1996.

"This is one of the better shows because a lot of people in Tyler come out and support it," said Tyler Vickers.

Unlike other shows across the country, President and Organizer Kinney Polve says this show is unique because they are selective about the amount and type of vendors they showcase.
