20 homes destroyed in wildfire at North Texas lake
POSSUM KINGDOM LAKE — A fast-moving wildfire that has destroyed at least 20 homes in North Texas has grown to an estimated 3,500 acres.
Texas Forest Service spokesman John Nichols said late Tuesday that the wildfire in Palo Pinto County is also threatening about 125 other homes near Possum Kingdom Lake.
Massive blazes in roughly the same area scorched hundreds of thousands of acres and destroyed 160 homes just four months ago.
The blaze started Tuesday afternoon, and no major injuries have been reported. Fire officials are trying to figure out what ignited the fire, which had no containment as of Tuesday night.
Nichols says firefighters should be able to make some progress overnight as the winds decrease.
