On March 27, 2010 at around 8:00 a.m., Longview Police Officer R. Martinez
observed two suspicious subjects sitting inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the Express Inn at 3120 Estes Parkway.
Officer Martinez stopped to investigate and found that a person in the vehicle, Tasha Thompson, was in possession of a dangerous drug and was arrested. The other person sitting in the vehicle, Shawn Shafer, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was also arrested.
The driver of the vehicle, Sean Lyles, arrived while officers were at the scene and it was discovered that the vehicle was stolen in Upshur County. While searching the vehicle, several checkbooks and social security numbers were found for persons not at the scene. Officers were able to confirm that at least one of the checkbooks had been stolen and Lyles was arrested for fraudulent possession of identifying information (State jail felony).
All three suspects were booked into the Gregg County Jail and the stolen vehicle was recovered.
