Police: 2 East Texas Firefighters Dead

January 25, 2009 - 5:53pm
KILGORE - A firefighter training exercise in kilgore turned tragic for members of the Kilgore Fire Department on Sunday.
Kilgore Police tell KETK that at least four firefighters fell off the roof of Stark Hall and were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
By Sunday evening, 45-year-old Kyle Perkins of Kilgore and 28-year-old Cory Galloway of Grand Saline had died from their injuries.
It happened about 2:30 on the campus of Kilgore College.
Police tell KETK that 2 others suffered minor injuries and were treated and released at the hospital.

This tradgery could of been prevented. I am outraged that nobody has mention this. These guys are training and they get killed. Wake up!!! Obviously, there health and safety protcal is going to be reviewed. To many needless deaths to firefighters.

11 months agoYou are absolutly right. Looks like it has been swept under the table. @ men are dead, and no one has been held accountable. This is a hard desicion to make but there must be a reckoning, so that others may learn from the mistakes made here, and prevent something like this from happening again. (Note: seems like the same thing happend in Noonday 2 years ago, and to this day no one has stepped and said "I am responsible & this is what we are going to do to fix it")

1 year agoWas informed by a very good friend from Tyler FD of this tragedy. I'm actually at Brayton fire field training right now. I know I speak for the rest of Chandler VFD when I say my/our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of both of these men. God speed and quick heeling to the others who suffered injuries. God already has his arm around the shoulders of Kyle and Cory. Onwards and upwards brothers!!

1 year agoI have been a firefighter for 10 years and my cousin had also died in the line of duty. It is always a tragedy whenever we lose a brother or sister firefighter. My family's thoughts and prayers are with the families of Kyle and Cory, as well as the other injured firefighters, and the entire Kilgore Fire Dept. as they deal with the tragic loss of two of their brother firefighters.
