Jacksonville, Texas (KETK) — According to Jacksonville Police Chief Reece Daniel, an East Texas toddler is recovering in a Dallas hospital after being bitten in the throat by a family dog.
Around 5:30 p.m., Sunday night, police were called to a Jacksonville home on reports of an animal bite. When officers arrived at the house, they discovered a three-year-old boy had been bitten in the throat by a pet dog. The dogs, who were also the family pets, were identified as a lab mix and pitbull mix. A man on scene at the time of the attack, stabbed the pitbull mix in the back after seeing the child had been bitten.
The family of the toddler say they were getting ready to go take a walk when they discovered what happened.
The boy was flown to a Dallas hospital and is now reported to be in stable condition with a breathing tube, although the toddler had a stroke while being treated.
Both dogs were euthanized due to the fact it is not certain which dog bit the child. The dogs bodies are also being tested for Rabies because a bite to the neck can cause the disease to spread to the brain of the victim, quickly.
The family is by the child's side in his hospital room in Dallas.
