4 little words on LA church sign sparks big discussion

It's an average looking church sign, but it makes a pretty big statement.

"Yeah we thought long and hard about those four words, 'Gay marriages happen here.' So it means we are doing, will continue doing it, and have done it for 31 years," explained Reverend Steve Crump of the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge.

And Reverend Steve Crump said those little flashing words are already making a heavy impact in the community.

"We've had five to six couples call our church, some were actually attending our pride service last Sunday and talked about going out of state for a gay marriage and they said, 'no we're going to do it right here in Louisiana. They're going to do it right here in this church. And we were just delighted to hear that," added Crump.

But not everyone is convinced that the words ring true, or even carry a real legal promise of marriage.

"I don't think that sign or those promotional efforts, even by good friends who happen to differ is going to change that definition very much. And I seriously doubt any thing that's produced by that would be upheld or supported in the court of law or any other legal venue," said Gene Mills with Louisiana Family Forum.

Rev. Crump said it's no coincidence the sign went up on Goodwood Blvd this week. With a Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage expected soon, it's a topic both sides have on their minds.

"It’s timed to coincide with the decision of the court probably because they're not very confident that the court is going to rule in their favor," said Mills.

"I know the culture is changing. I know we are on the right side theologically, wherever there is love, god abides also," added Crump.

The Supreme Court is expected to hand down a judgment on the same sex marriage issue within the next two weeks.

Hillarygal, I guess now you support perverts and that you want your kids to be perverts, fine, but don't expect the rest of us to teach our kids that kind of sick behavior. You must not have been taught any morals or values or even respect for others, shame. I will pray for you. By the way the last time I checked the Bible did not support or condone perverts & their sick behavior either, try reading it sometime.

Suze, would suspect you have enough on your plate just trying to keep your own life in line...who made you judge of anyone else's life? As a matter of fact, one's belief system is a one-on-one with God and, as far as I can tell, you are NOT him...so in all of your vast range of opinions on every single subject that comes along, why don't you first step back, before you open your mouth or post one of your little ditties, and check your own life...it will be a full-time job!!

This is a great start. Everyone deserves to be with the person they love and to be married to them if they wish.

Not much of a church and can only imagine what they preach.
