Get your dancing shoes on, the 52nd annual Square and Round Dancing Festival is this weekend in Tyler. Professionals from all over the state will show off their dance moves at Harvey Convention Center.

More than 400 square, round, line and clog dancers from all over the state of Texas will be at the Harvey Convention Center and the Rose Center from Thursday to Sunday. They invite anyone who wants to experience some good, fun dancing to come out and see what they're all about.

"It's fun and fellowship," said Howard Rowan, who has been attending the festival since 1994.

Disco, country, ball room, this group of men and women dance to it all.

"We dance to all types of music. Some people relate it to old time stuff, but we were dancing to disco music last night," said Rowan.

They travel all around the state once a year to attend this grand festival.

"It's all about having fun, enjoying life and a lot of good exercise."

Rowan and his wife have been in sync since the 90s.

"Our kids were graduating from high school and I guess we were called empty-nesters looking for something to fill our time and I suggested square dancing.''

"We made this our summer vacation, we've made all the national conventions across the country," said Rowan.

They said it's a great time to show off their dance moves and make lifelong friends.

"You make friends for life. It's like a big family. We just have a lot of fun and make lots of new friends every time we go," said Asst. Festival Chairwoman Nell Settle.

Settle has been dancing since the 70s.

"It's worth it. Square and round dancing is fun, fellowship and family and it's quite a wonderful thing," said Settle.

They're excited to have the festival back in East Texas this year and are ready to make some more memories.

"Kind of like the pictures where the communities got together and danced, that's kind of our philosophy a whole family oriented activity," said Rowan.

It starts Thursday June 12 at Harvey Hall at 7 p.m. put on by Texas State Callers' Association.

Friday, from 1-4 p.m., the Texas Round Dance Teachers Association will host, and then the East Texas Square and Round Dance Association will host and then at 7 p.m.

Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Sunday they will have their farewell dance from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.

They invite anyone who wants to observe this traditional dance to come out and watch.
