911 calls detail events leading up to fatal Longview standoff
The Longview News-Journal — In the minutes before a May 9 standoff, 911 callers told Longview police a blonde-haired woman sought shelter in a neighboring house and ducked for cover in a garage after she was fired at in the street by a dark-haired woman wielding a pistol.
Hours later, Candace Jackson, a blonde, was killed by police outside her Eden Drive home.
Eighteen minutes before she was shot, Jackson called a former boyfriend, saying she was “in the midst of a spiritual warfare and everyone around her was bad.”
The calls are among audio recordings of 911 calls and transcripts of police radio traffic from that day obtained by the News-Journal through open records requests. The documents reveal previously undisclosed details of the incident that paralyzed much of Northeast Longview as Jackson held officers at bay.
