Adopt a horse

The Doris Day Horse Rescue and Adoption Center, located in Murchison, Texas—just East of Athens, on the grounds of the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, is a facility that rescues and rehabilitates abused and neglected horses, and ultimately helps place them with adopters who can provide them with safe, permanent, loving homes.

They also work with the Humane Society of the United States.

The Clevelandd Amory, Black Beauty Ranch Animal Sanctuary is nearly 1,300 acres. And is the home to more than 1,200 domestic and exotic animals, many of whom have been rescued from near-death situations such as slaughterhouses, biomedical research laboratories, and trophy hunting ranches. Others are discards from circuses or roadside zoos, or were former victims of the exotic pet trade. Still others have come from public lands where they were threatened with extermination by the federal government.

The ranch is not a zoo and is not open for regular public visitation. Amory's vision was that it "would be a place where animals are looked after, not looked at."

The goal of Doris Day Horse Rescue and Adoption center is to spead the awareness of horse adoption.

Your reporter Nicole Vowelle needs to be careful on pronouncing Amory. Twice in her report she said, Armory. The names are so close in spelling, it's easy to see how a mistake can be made, but I think reporters must make the effort to be careful even in the little things.
