Tyler , TX (KETK) — A bible customized for oil field workers has people buzzing about it all over the world.
It began with two Houston men in the oil patch who wanted to connect with other Christians in the oil industry.
It may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about people finding God.
But, men and women working in the oil field industry have been helped through this particular outreach.
Oilfield Christian Fellowship have popped up everywhere.
"I know that we have had hundreds of conversions from people who have found the bible, on a rig on a contractor's desk or by a salesman that shows up at the rig. It is just a phenomenal impact on the oil and gas industry," said Board of Directors John Trosclair.
Trosclair has been a believer since meeting the founder of the fellowship over 30 years ago.
His colleague Terry Bates had the same experience.
They sit on the Board of Directors.
The Tyler chapter meets once a month and invites oil field workers to share their testimony and how they found God through their line of work.
"It takes a lot of strong men to accomplish this job. A lot of the time strong men aren't willing to submit to a higher power and we're trying to tell them strong men need Jesus too," said Trosclair.
They do so by handing bibles and pamphlets customized for oil field workers.
They bring the word of God and personal testimonies of others who found the Lord through this ministry.
"In the oil field they have a lot of stress in their lives. They have a lot of life issues they are struggling with and we believe this book has answers," said vice president of engineering for Abraxas Petroleum Corp. Peter Bommer.
