Staying cool during the summer months is important to everyone. And nothing says cool quite like air conditioning. But this summer, A/C stores in the area have seen a number of people reporting that their A/C's are broken on a daily basis.

"Anywhere from 90 degrees or above, we can get anything from 15 to 30 calls a day," said Ismael Hernandez of Kelly A/C & Heating, Inc.

Shawna Driggers, an administrative assistant at Kelly A/C & Heating, said the number one problem she has seen so far, is people forgetting to change out their air filters.

"If the customer calls in and tells us their unit has frozen up or is not cooling the first question we ask them is have you checked or cleaned your air filter."

Not changing this monthly can be harmful to one's health. The air quality worsens if the filter is pushing out airborne allergens and dust.

"A clogged dirty air filter, it can harm in different ways. It can keep your house really dusty and dirty, which of course causes the lovely allergies that we have here in east texas," said Driggers.

When your ac breaks, it isn't cheap to fix either.

"It can be a costly thing, such as if your car were to break down and you had to change that, that can get costly too. we refer our air conditioners to the same thing as a vehicle because they both run with motors and they both run all of the time. if you keep your vehicle maintained, you want to keep your air conditioner and your heater maintained as well," Driggers concluded.
