Afghan President confirms peace talks with Taliban
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - President Hamid Karzai has confirmed he has started peace talks with Taliban leaders.
The move is to secure peace in war-weary Afghanistan.
"We have been talking to the Taliban as countryman to countryman," said Karzai.
On Sunday, the Afghan government named former President Burhanuddin Rabbani as chief of a new peace council tasked with talking to insurgent groups.
