City officials are considering a five-year, $4 million project to rebuild aging water lines across the city.

The city’s primary water lines, running along U.S. 80 and FM 450, were installed in the late 1930’s and in recent years have begun to show their age by breaking and corroding.

“Last year, we paid off a couple of our bonds, and we paid off the police building, that left us (with two bonds). So, what we are looking at doing is refunding that bond. It will get a lower interest rate, and what we want to do since the interest rates are low enough, we will borrow another $4 million,” said Mayor Jerri Medrano.
