Airline Plans to 'Unbundle' Pricing

FORT WORTH - American Airlines is preparing to break up the cost of a trip into airfare, plus many smaller fees.
Starting next year, the nation's largest airline plans to charge for a few basic fare plans. Travelers can pick up more services— for a fee.
Fans of "unbundling" say it gives travelers lower fares with the option of paying for extras they really want, including drinks and blankets.
But critics say the airlines are just trying to get away with charging for things they shouldn't be.
The airlines say it is a way they can boost revenue and offset the price for jet fuel.
