All-Centex girls' basketball team: Hyder has long been cut above the rest

AUSTIN, Texas — Alexis Hyder does not recall anyone complaining about her playing quarterback for an all-boys flag football team when she was a fourth-grader.
"I had good vision of the field, I had a good arm and could see things that others couldn't see," Hyder said.
Now a senior at LBJ, Hyder grew up playing football and basketball against the boys in her neighborhood. Those pickup games honed her competitive edge and helped her develop into a gifted athlete, one named to the American-Statesman's All-Central Texas girls basketball team as a first-team choice for the third straight year.
This season, the 5-foot-11-inch Hyder averaged more than 35 points a game in District 26-4A play, as LBJ won its 12th straight district title. She has been impressive in class, too, ranking sixth academically in a senior class of 260 students.
