AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - Amarillo police say two officers have
been put on administrative duty following the death of a butcher
knife-wielding man who was subdued with help from a Taser.
Police on Thursday identified the man as 41-year-old Kelly Wayne
Sinclair. An autopsy has been ordered.
Officers Jon Heath and Royce Bushey answered a call Wednesday
night about a suicidal person.
The officers approached a home as one man yelled at another
while both were in a vehicle. Police rescued Sinclair's father.
Sinclair then moved the knife to his own throat.
Police say Heath fired the Taser to stun Sinclair. The Taser was
still deployed as Sinclair fought being disarmed. The Taser was
turned off as Sinclair was being handcuffed, then officers realized
he stopped breathing. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
